Pegasus Pizza Faux Finishing

JS Painting Company recently did some work at Pegasus Pizza on Alki Beach. They had some pretty basic touch up work and some faux finish work. About half of the trim in the restaurant needed to be touched up. It was originally painted with Martha Stewart Living Precious Metals to achieve a golden look. This product has a cool effect but there are some drawbacks. The paint is easy enough to apply and it covers fairly well, but the finish is not very hard. This poses a problem for the application at Pegasus. Since it's a restaurant it has to endure higher traffic and frequent cleaning. That, combined with the fact that when it was originally painted they painter didn't properly strip the varnish on the trim, means that Pegasus has to apply a maintenance coat quite often.

For the faux finish work we used Sherwin Williams Duration Home for the base and the glazing tint. In order to achieve the faux finish Fresco look, you apply a lighter colored base paint, and then you mix your darker color with your glaze and apply it with a sponge applicator. It's actually pretty simple, but it takes some tinkering. The glaze we used was Sherwin Williams Faux Impressions Latex Glaze. We had no complaints about the product.
