Cougar Mountain Repaint SW SuperPaint and Solo Review

This project out in the Cougar Mountain/Lakemont area was completed using Super Paint and Solo. This was a fun project because the home owner got a little more creative with the color selection which really helped to draw out the trim features on the house. They wanted to escape limited color palette of their suburban HOA and they were able to do so without getting too crazy.

As for the products-

Sherwin Williams Super Paint is a solid product. I never really have complaints here because it's basic and gets the job done without trouble. It may not be the top premium line, but at a lower price point it's a great option to get a long lasting paint job. The other thing worth noting is that while being a quality paint, it's not excessively thick, making it easier to spray for a less experienced painter.

From the Sherwin website:

"Count on SuperPaint® Exterior Acrylic Latex to deliver outstanding performance and protect against the elements. Cold and frosty or hot and humid, this formula goes on smooth and resists fading and peeling. And thanks to its advanced acrylic resin technology, you'll enjoy outstanding adhesion and color retention."

Sherwin Williams Solo is also becoming a product I often rely upon. I primarily use this for certain trim projects and on exterior doors. I used to use Sherwin's All Surface Enamel for exterior doors, but I noticed that recently I've been having consistent coverage issues with the ASE. It's just thin and pulls itself off if you go to thick. Often times we're applying 3+ coats to get it where we want it to be. Solo is a solid alternative that seems to cover better. It also comes in at a lower price point than the ASE. The other thing I like about the Solo is that it comes in a variety of sheens. For one reason or another Sherwin has been cutting back their sheen offerings to just 3 sheens for many exterior products - flat, satin, gloss. Solo however still comes in flat, eg-shell, semi-gloss, and gloss.

From the Sherwin website:

"Solo is an efficient solution that maximizes application options and minimizes inventory and labor costs. This versatile, self-priming paint can be used almost anywhere – on surfaces both inside and out. Now there is a product that can work overtime allowing more projects to be completed with a single product."
